Part of Vic Herman’s celebrated Many Faces of Mexico series, Sweet captures a poised ballerina from the Ballet Folklórico de México in a quiet, intimate moment before performance. She lifts a Life Saver to her lips — not as indulgence, but necessity. As a diabetic, the small candy provides essential strength before she steps onto the stage.

Herman’s affection and deep respect for the Mexican people is evident in this portrayal. Rather than spectacle, he offers humanity — dignity found in preparation, vulnerability, and discipline. Like much of his work, Sweet reflects everyday resilience rendered with painterly realism and warmth.

The lithograph was included in The Many Faces of Mexico Exhibition, which traveled extensively throughout Mexico and the United States under the joint sponsorship of the Mexican and American governments. The series solidified Herman’s reputation as “The Norman Rockwell of Mexico,” celebrated for portraying daily life with authenticity and grace.

Each print in this signed and numbered edition of 300 was hand-inscribed by the artist along the lower margin.
